EMERGENCY SIREN UPDATE

The City of Oconto Falls emergency siren repairs have been completed this morning. We apologize for the inconvenience of not having the emergency siren available during the severe weather yesterday. The repairs took an extended period as the City needed to purchase equipment for the repair and find personnel to repair the siren.

As a reminder, emergency sirens are primarily designed to alert individuals outdoors to the imminent danger of a tornado or severe thunderstorms. They are not meant to be heard indoors. While sirens can be helpful, they should not be the sole source of severe weather alerts. People should also use NOAA Weather Radio, local media, and smartphone apps for more detailed and timely information.

Beautify Oconto Falls

April 30th through May 15th the City will be providing notices to properties that need improvement to meet the current City ordinances. The City is hosting Spring Cleanup at the Recycle Center April 15th-April 26th Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 3:00pm. Items accepted included yard waste, furniture, appliances. There is charge for tires, appliances with freon, air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers.

YARD CLEAN UP This includes vehicles parked in the yard for over 30 days, debris, garbage, brush, tree limbs, bikes, appliances in yard, unkept trees, shrubs and unmowed lawns.  There will be a 10-day notice to correct these items. If violations are not resolved following the 10-day notice, fines will be issued until issues are resolved.  Leaf pick-up will be for 2weeks starting April 14th and ending April 25th. Please place leaf pile within 3 feet of curb, not in gutter. In addition , do not place leaf piles within 3 feet of a mailbox, fire hydrant or power pole. Leaf piles must be free of sticks and yard/pet waste. Do not mulch leaf piles. Residents can also haul leaves to the compost pile behind the recycling center during recycling center business hours.

PROPERTY CONDITIONS The City will also be reviewing property conditions such as roof issues, exterior issues such as siding, soffits or fascia, unsafe stairs, railings, porches, decks, unfinished repairs. If your property is in violation of any of the ordinances you will be receiving a letter indicating the problem. There is 30 to 60 day notice to correct the problems. However, we understand that some repairs may be costly so the City wants homeowners to have adequate time to save and be prepared for the cost of the improvement. We will work with property owners on limited extensions to correct more extensive violations.
